The It's A Penalty campaign to address ending human trafficking started in 2021 by the NFL. In 2019, the arrest of Robert Kraft, the NFL Patriots owner, in a human trafficking sting operation exposed the human trafficking issue that surrounds football's Super Bowls. Notably Kraft was not charged due to "lack" of evidence, although he pled guilty and publicly apologized.
The NFL campaign takes a weak "if you see it report it" approach to human trafficking that is just simple awareness. Millions of dollars will bring awareness to this issue. But it also a form of marketing spin being deceptively used to persuade the public that the NFL's is doing good deeds and really addressing the issue. The NFL being the number one attractor to this issue, should do more, but until then you can help.
Check out the Polaris Project. Ending human trafficking means tackling the underlying patterns of exploitation so that we prevent trafficking before it starts.
